As a small business owner, email marketing is 100% essential. Often times you’ll get sucked into a purchasing a program that leaves you wondering how to write HTML code. Wouldn’t it be great if there was an EASY and FREE email marketing platform? Well, thankfully, there is! Here are the top 6 reasons why your small business should be using email marketing (even if it’s not Save Local Now’s).

  1. Email Marketing is Affordable

With Save Local Now, it’s actually free. We understand small business and we know that things are tight. One thing we often cut is our marketing budget; now, you won’t need to.

  1. Email Marketing is Easy

You could get all fancy with email and make it into something complicated. With SLN, you don’t have to. Create a business promotion on your SLN platform and publish it. From there, it’s as simple as clicking on that little email icon and pushing it out to your personal distribution lists. Get creative and separate your lists; your messaging for new customers and repeat customers should be engaging and – most importantly – different.

  1. Email Marketing is Quick

With SLN, you can share a published post to your email list in a matter of minutes. Our email platform does the work for you, bringing in your image and copy so you don’t have to. We’ve also integrated Google Maps into our responsive template (just to make it THAT much easier for consumers to find you).

  1. Email Marketing Delivers Retention

You’re focused on improving customer experience and retention. Stats prove that email marketing is still the #1 way to do this. Make sure that when you’re sending out an email, you have something purposeful to say. Educate and reward the customers who open your emails every week.

  1. Customers Want Email Marketing

Even in today’s fast paced world, email is still the preferred communication channel for consumers. With the hundreds of thousands of emails sent out every day, what will make yours different? Be creative, engaging, and honest. If they care about your brand (your product, your service, your staff) then they will open your email. Make sure they continue to.

  1. Email Marketing and ROI

Email marketing delivers revenue. This revenue stems from sharing a message with your following and encouraging them to take action. Blindly sending emails to your distribution list won’t get you anywhere. Know your customers, watch their patterns, educate and reward them. Remember: you are a customer, as well. What email marketing messages stand out to you? What have you responded well to? Don’t be afraid to integrate what’s working for others into your marketing agenda.

5 Tips for Your Small Business Marketing

1. GATHER EMAILS
Ask for business cards or require first time customer’s to provide their email address. Build a network. Use SLN’s free email marketing to share your business promotions and brand personality with the customers who care about you the most.

2. ASK FOR REVIEWS
Reviews and testimonials are the digital “word of mouth.” When you have a happy customer or client, ask them to share their experience on your social media pages. Don’t be afraid to add those reviews as testimonials on your website! Remember: you’ll choose one business over another because you’re friend recommended them. Same goes for social reviews/testimonials!

3. SELL TIME, NOT MONEY
Help your customers see the value of your brand. Save them TIME. Customers relate to “time well spent” more so than you’d think. How can you, your product or your service save customers time that they could otherwise be spending with family and friends?

4. CHANGE IT UP
Brand consistency and familiarity are important. BUT. Don’t be afraid to mix it up a little bit. Incorporate fun, engaging content into your marketing promotions; appeal to the masses. Is Halloween approaching? Give them marketing that they can really sink their teeth into. 😉

5. LEARN FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS
What do you know about your customers? Do they prefer fast service, or good service? Do they pay more when you personalize an email marketing message? Do they want to know more about your brand story and personality? Are they following you on social media? Survey your customers once or twice per year. Ask them what you could do differently, or what product enhancement they’d like to see next.

You’ve claimed your business, and you’ve enhanced your profile. Now, it’s time to post! How often should you post? Does it always need to be a discount? Don’t stress! We’ve broken down the process to make it as fast, easy, and FUN as possible.

We recommend that you start with one to three posts per week on Save Local Now. Remember, as more and more people create posts and promotions for their business, your post is being pushed lower in the feed. The MORE you post, the MORE you’re seen. Put yourself in your consumer’s shoes; what would make you react? What do you offer that would appeal to the consumer? Here are some ideas, based on category, for SLN promotions:

  • Food and Drink:
    • Title: ½ Price Bottles of Wine!
    • Description: Monday nights only! ½ price on bottle wine selection with the purchase of one adult entrée!
  • Shopping:
    • Title: Just in Time for Mother’s Day!
    • Description: Send flowers to that special someone. Mention “Save Local Now” for $7 off!

If you ask Keith Latore, CEO and Co-Founder of Save Local Now, how he came up with his latest entrepreneurial endeavor, he’ll tell you it originated as a simple idea scribbled on a cocktail napkin.

As the former president of Your HomeTown Chagrin Falls, Latore already was focused on preserving and enhancing the quality of life in Chagrin Falls. The organization’s goal was to assist businesses and bring people in to shop in the village’s stores.

“A light bulb went off,” Latore said. “The traditional stuff had been done — they exist and are successful. Connecting in digital space is where businesses need the most help, and they need it to be easy, fast and free.”

And so, Save Local Now was born.

Keri Senderak, Director of Marketing and Communications at Save Local Now, was interviewed on the importance of supporting local. See her full interview  here.

Why is buying local so important to businesses and the economy as a whole?

At the most basic level, buying local ensures that more money stays in the community. In fact, for every $100 spent at a locally-owned store, $45 remains in the local economy. By shopping at the local “mom and pop” style store instead of these “big box” corporations, consumers can rest assured knowing that they’re doing their part at keeping their communities unique and thriving.

How does buying local save money?

Buying local saves people money in several ways. These small businesses are close to home, meaning that many people don’t need to travel far to get to them. Products (like fruit and produce) are made or grown at local locations, so they don’t have to travel far to get where they’re going. This means that, in many cases, there is no middle man. This translates to lower prices for the business owner and, of course, the consumer.

What are the current trends you’re seeing in local communities?

Saving money by buying local. I’ve noticed that many chambers of commerce (more specifically those that have partnered with Save Local Now) are encouraging “buy local” initiatives. Now more than ever chambers and their small businesses recognize that when consumers buy local, they are also assisting in the creation and retention of jobs.

Where do you see local businesses in the next few years? Few decades?

I only see communities and their local businesses growing stronger. Many of us concern ourselves with “what’s trending.” These “buy local” promotions are most definitely trending, but I also believe they’re here to stay. People genuinely care about their communities; they want a booming downtown area, safe streets to walk on, job opportunities and friendly atmospheres. Honestly though, who doesn’t? I don’t see small business going anywhere any time soon.

You partner closely with chambers of commerce. What are some things you do together?

We partner exclusively with chambers of commerce to help their member businesses. We discovered that many of these small business owners didn’t have the tools they need to ensure a successful business. We void that gap by partnering with the chamber. The chamber pays for SLN services, and their members get SLN as an added benefit for being a member of the chamber. Currently, Save Local Now is in 27 states, and more than 80,000 member businesses have received SLN as a NO-COST member benefit. Here at Save Local Now, we are all about the small business owner, and will do whatever we can to guarantee the success of that business, the community they’re in, and the chamber of commerce that supports them.

Small businesses are often close to home, meaning that you don’t have to travel as far to get there. Spring is in the air! The sun is coming out, birds are chirping, snow is melting…it’s time to do some spring cleaning! Here are some tips to get organized:

1. Clear Out That Inbox

We know you get a lot of spam. Over 200 million spam emails are sent out PER DAY. Take some time at the end of each day and sort our your inbox. Delete junk mail. Create and organize folders to help you navigate your inbox better. Create a Save Local Now folder for all your impression reports! Before you know it, you’re inbox will be squeaky clean, and you will thank yourself for having a tidy email system.

2. Give Your Save Local Now Business Profile a Facelift

You might have updated it a few months ago but you might have also added a new service or popular product to your business. Give it a quick once-over and look for places that need a little refreshing. Update your hours if they are different in the summer. Check out your keywords and add some more. Post your business’ profile on social media again if you haven’t in a while. It’s a simple way to freshen up your image.

3. Create a New Spring Deal or Event

There’s a lot going on in spring. Some of you might have customers looking for landscapers, new hair styles, new cars or new houses. Put up a deal relating to spring to help drive more business. If you want new customers, offer referral discounts to encourage your already loyal customers to bring in more! If you want to throw an event, think of all the great things you can do with the nice weather; weddings, sidewalk sales, outdoor games, you name it. Lots of customers are looking for reasons to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. There are many great opportunities and it only takes a minute!

These are just a few things you can do for spring. Of course there’s still some windows that need to be wiped down and some floors that need some scrubbing, but your marketing strategy is just like that closet that needs to be cleaned out and reorganized. Out with the old, and in with the new. Keep things updated and keep things going!

The cold weather may be slowing your business down a bit. People want to stay indoors instead of braving the arctic temperatures and heavy snowfall. If you are blessed with warmer climates you may just be looking for something new to do with your business. One way to get away from the same ol’ humdrum is to host an event!

You may be thinking “Why would I want to host an event?” well, here’s two realy good reasons why:

Exposure:

Hosting an event can help you gain exposure especially on a local level. People are more likely to remember your business if you host a great event. Also, having an event allows you to market your business and your products without over selling.

Customer Interaction:

It’s one thing to reach out to your customers on social media like Facebook and Twitter, but what really makes the customer engagement is face to face interaction. Events are a great way to get to know your customers and build more personal relationships.

Consumers are more selective these days. They have a lot of ways to avoid advertisements and it’s important to come up with creative solutions. These events are marketing your audience directly, which can be more effective than radio, television, or print adds. Rather than pushing your products or services our them, they are coming to you.

While hosting these events, you can get your customers to experience products or services that you offer. This allows you to establish connections that build customer loyalty.

To ensure that your event runs smoothly, it’s important to make sure you have everything organized. Here are some tips to follow:

Set up your event with Save Local Now. Save Local Now’s event publishing makes it easy to send your event to your consumers.

1. Get an Oragnized Registration in Place:

Make sure you have a fun yet informative description and take advantage of the custom button. If you have a registration online, have that button go directly to that page or to your event page on Facebook where people can RSVP.

2. Tell Everyone About It:

Once you create your event you can push it out to all your social media outlets as well as send it out through email marketing. You’ll also be on the website and the app! Make sure you track your impressions to see who you are reaching.

3. Take Lots of Pictures and Videos:

Do a countdown or a behind the scenes of setting up the event to build excitement. During the event, capture are much as you can of the experience. Post these pictures or videos to social media. Let those who didn’t come see what they missed! Those who attended will have a great time going through your posts.

Whatever type of business you may be, building personal relationships with your customers is important. Social media is one thing, but face to face will always be the best way to reach your customers. Save Local Now makes it easy to get your started. So put yourself out there by bringing your customers in!
